Privacy Policy

The Sports Nomad ("we," "us") connects travelling and relocating football fans with local supporters clubs. This page explains what information we collect, why, and how you can control it.
Information we collect
When you create a profile, we collect:
- Your name and email address
- Your password (stored as a salted hash — we never store or can see your actual password)
- Your location (city), so we can match you with nearby chapters and meet-ups
- Your date of birth, used only to confirm you're 21 or older
- Your favorite club team and/or national team, if you choose to set one
- An optional bio, if you choose to write one
When you use the site, we also collect the meet-ups you create or RSVP to, and — if you install our iOS app — a device token used to deliver push notifications. We temporarily log IP addresses for a short window to prevent abuse (like spam signups or brute-force login attempts); these logs are automatically deleted on a rolling basis and are not used to track you.
How we use it
- To operate your account and show you relevant chapters, fixtures, and meet-ups
- To send you transactional emails: verifying your address, and notifying you when someone proposes a meet-up for your favorite team in your city
- To confirm you meet our minimum age requirement
- To detect and prevent abuse of the platform
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers to run the platform, each only for the purpose below:
- Resend — sends verification and notification emails on our behalf
- Google Places — when you search for a venue while creating a meet-up, your search is sent to Google to verify it's a real place
- Neon & Vercel — host our database and web application
- Apple / Google push notification services — deliver push notifications to our iOS and (in future) Android apps
These providers process data under their own privacy policies and only to the extent needed to provide their service to us. We don't share your data with anyone else, and we don't sell it.
Cookies
We use a single essential cookie to keep you logged in. It's not used for tracking or advertising, and it's required for the site to function — there's nothing optional to opt out of.
Your data, your control
You can update your name, location, favorite teams, and bio at any time from your profile. You can permanently delete your account and its data yourself at any time from the "Danger zone" section of your profile. To request a copy of your data instead, email us at privacy@thesportsnomad.com.
Security
Passwords are hashed (never stored in plain text), all traffic is encrypted in transit (HTTPS), and resetting your password automatically signs out any other active sessions on your account.
Age requirement
The Sports Nomad is intended for adults 21 and older, since meet-ups are often hosted at bars and pubs. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 21, and accounts found to violate this will be removed.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to how we handle your data, we'll update this page and change the "last updated" date above.
